“Montreal Fall Wind” WIP2

0113

I don’t know the name of the technique I am using, as most of the time, but what it essentially consists of is laying plastic over the wet watercolour in order to distort it while it dries. I will be doing this in sections, and using tape to mask those sections off.

Small Panels WIP3

Really, these were super quick. I work on both simultaneously. I do this as often as I can, as long as I have enough arm room so I don’t smear anything. The benefit of having my studio in my living area is also that I can do something for a few minutes, and come back later. Also, you can see some of the result of removing the tape.

Small Panels WIP1

Here’s a few more panels for my comic…that’s taking forever. As I assemble it, I am realizing that I am getting way too detailed in the smaller images. It looks fine, but there’s going to be inconsistent line weight in my comic and inconsistent levels of detail. I guess to work with the inconsistency, I have not much more left to do than make it more inconsistent by making panels more abstract. So instead of using perspective in the bottom panel here, I’m just going by a layout made with tape. Hey, I can do whatever I want.

Gamer Commission WIP5

I made the grid pink. It’s supposed to have an 80s feel. I kind of took the inspiration from Robot Unicorn 2, which has a similar style in the menu (the art for the game is pretty good). Darkened up somethings, adding a few accent colours. Next, I do a quick inking and scan – done.

Gamer Commission WIP3

I had a pretty limited amount of time to do this commission – the amount of time is always proportionate to the budget because I don’t want to be working on a loss. I plan things out to be as efficient as possible in my head. Here, with a couple salty watercolour layers, I create a background.
